Michalis Charalambidis - (speaking in Orestiada) - THE HISTORICAL THRACE WITHOUT PRISONS

When in the early '80s I began to form a liberation theory for Asia Minor and the Eastern Mediterranean, in a text of mine I wrote: "in Turkey we do not have cultural capitals but the capitals of the world's prisons". My analytical effort was then unique worldwide. Unfortunately, the university here and the politicians were outmoded.

The current crisis of the Turkish construction multiplies prison-cities and transfers them to the west, in Eastern Thrace, because they do not control their eastern part ( Kurdia ). It transfers them to Raedestos, in Selybria, in Edirne. The city of Hadrian (2017 is dedicated to him) is converted back into a city jail, into a hangings city, as it was during the first period of the Ottoman conquest.

Today is prisoned there, just beside us, a young man. One of the pure faces of Asia Minor, a democratic figure. The co-chairman of the People's Democratic Party, Demirtas. About a year ago, we were giving a speech together at an event in Athens.

Further south in Kalolimnos is imprisoned the white contemporary Nelson Mandela, Alexander Panagoulis of the Kurds, Abdullah Ocalan.

I feel great contempt for all those here, and the Hyper-Northerns that remain silent, tolerate or even support the settlement of barbarism on the soil of Asia Minor and Thrace. Of the Byzantine Romania.

What can we do? To develop an ethical conversation, a political co-athletism, a struggle front with the most humane and democratic forces in the historic Thrace. North, Western, Eastern, horizon, aiming, one Thrace without prisons.

The Greek State can remove from Western Thrace the prison of Komotini.

These are the paths of a truly universal solidarity; not the racist version of Greek-Turkish friendship imposed upon the country, where Greeks preserve the Kemal-Islamic, Turkish racism.
